I have been in Botswana since August 1, 2016. I work in the District AIDS Coordinators Office, the Social and Community Development Office, and with the District Health Management Team as a Peace Corps Volunteer in my village.\u00a0 Much of the work is in organizational capacity.\u00a0 I spend a majority of my time focused on HIV\/AIDS and Malaria projects in the district.<\/p>\n

I had always wanted to work in some humanitarian\/development capacity!\u00a0 Peace Corps had the best to offer–it has helped me to build development skills while I grow and learn new things about myself and my chosen profession. When I return to the U.S. I will resume earning my Master of Public Health and Tropical Medicine at Tulane University.<\/p>\n

One of the things I miss most from the U.S. is taco seasoning.\u00a0 I can find it every once in a while in Botswana–but it\u2019s not the same.\u00a0 Okay, I know that seems ridiculous, I obviously miss my family and friends too, but grocery selection is not the same here.<\/p>\n

It is incredibly encouraging to work and live with the people in my village.\u00a0 They have been so welcoming and full of love and support.\u00a0 Our country is facing major challenges these days–don’t give up hope–and, if you do, just remember, us Peace Corps Volunteers haven’t!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
