Jose Soto-Gates

I have lived, worked, and volunteered in the Eugene/Springfield community for almost 20 years. I am currently the director and lead trainer at True Umbrella Training and Consulting and have worked in the mental health field for more than 15 years.

As an Opportunity Scholar, a father, a community organizer, and an advocate, I bring a lot to the board. I am honored to be able to serve our community in this capacity.

My career in human services in Lane County and Oregon over the last 15 years has given me a unique perspective, which I believe is beneficial to the long-term goals of the Foundation.

I have experience with budget oversight and projection, program management, direct community outreach and engagement, resource referral, systems and policy development, and organizational administration.

I continue to establish and maintain healthy relationships with community agencies and policy makers across Oregon. Relationships include local, state and national leaders, partnering agencies, business owners, VR counselors, employers, law enforcement, healthcare, and other systems.

I am excited to utilize my skills, training and experience in collaboration with other community leaders to plan, coordinate and participate in well-organized and enthusiastic community strengthening initiatives.

I think it is crucial that alumni be engaged and given opportunities to support the Ford Scholar Alumni Association’s mission to engage in community leadership!
