Many ambitious alumni put the Ford Scholar Alumni Association Vision Statement, \u201cConnect where you are; lead where you live,\u201d into action during various Earth Day community service events throughout the state in April.<\/p>\n

FSAA Board Member Marshall Curry spearheaded a second state-wide FSAA volunteer effort. After finding success in arranging for alumni to coordinate volunteer opportunities in their communities during the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service in mid-January, Curry copied the model for Earth Day.<\/p>\n

Several alumni volunteered to engage other alumni and Ford Scholars in their communities and find an event that needed Earth Day volunteers.<\/p>\n

Curry\u2019s MLK Day of Service and Earth Day volunteer efforts seem to have made some alumni fulfill the FSAA Mission Statement: \u201cTo provide opportunities for alumni to connect and further their leadership and service in their communities.\u201d<\/p>\n

Curry said that Ford Scholarship Alumni are doing amazing service projects all the time, whether as service to their communities or for their companies. He encourages alumni to let the FSAA know about events so they can help recruit Ford Alumni to assist.<\/p>\n

Curry already has plans for next year\u2019s MLK and Earth Day service projects. \u201cWe are hoping to make it easier for alumni to be coordinators of events, increase our outreach to build connections to alumni and Scholars, and continue improving our impact numbers in our communities,\u201d he said. \u201cThe more the merrier!\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
